EXTREME CLOSE QUARTERS HANDGUN - INSTRUCTOR COURSE

The Extreme Close Quarters Handgun Instructor Course is a four day school dealing with fighting with a handgun at contact distance out to approximately seven yards. Almost 80% of all use of deadly force encounters occur “up close and personal”, and yet many agencies and officers are trained only for longer distance shooting. It is not unusual still today to see agencies conducting firearms training where most of the shooting is being done at distances of seven yards to twenty-five yards from the threat target. While it is imperative that officers be proficient with their handguns at greater distances, we find that very little training is done where most gunfights occur. Some agencies and instructors are still teaching techniques that are outdated and unrealistic to actual gunfight encounters such as the old speed rock. If most of our fights occur within five feet of the threat, shouldn’t we be spending more time teaching our officers how to win at this distance?

In ECQ Handgun we will cover, train, and prepare instructors to take techniques back to their officers that are proven reliable and take into account human reaction times and fighting in the reactionary gap.

Student Instructors will learn about the OODA Loop, Observe, Orient, Decision, and Action that is prevalent in every deadly force encounter and how to impart that knowledge to their students through various drills and scenarios. We will work on distraction and quick incapacitation techniques that can turn the tables and cause the threat to now have to respond to the officer’s actions. Planting your feet and growing roots in a gunfight is a fast way to end up down with the roots. Students will be moving forward, backward, laterally, and at oblique angles to get off the line of attack. Quick yet smooth draw strokes will be emphasized and reinforced to get the gun into the fight quickly. One and two officer drills will teach partner communication, proper combat follow through techniques, contact / cover positioning and enhancing the winning Mindset to prepare officers for these encounters. Since off duty shootings or plain clothes assignments require a different slant to some of the techniques utilized, the student instructors will receive training to prepare their officers properly for these encounters as well. Remember, you rarely get to pick your battlefield.

Trident Firearms Academy LLC will provide student instructors with a course workbook outlining different techniques, courses of fire, and suggestions for taking this training back to their own agency. We will provide the student instructors with a course outline of our lesson plan that they can build on to customize the training to their environment, taking into account weather conditions normally encountered, whether they work in a rural or urban area, and the various impediments of their uniforms and duty gear. Trident Firearms Academy LLC utilizes the Coach / Shooter training format to keep down time to a minimum and to enhance the student instructors teaching capabilities. This class is kept to a maximum of twenty students working in two relays of ten on the line at a time to insure safety and to provide hands on training and correction to help the student’s ingrain proper technique and knowledge of the subject matter.

Trident Firearms Academy LLC can provide this training at our home range in central California or bring the training to you. For specific equipment needs to instruct this course in your area, please contact us and we will provide the information packet of needed materials.

Officers are already reactive to deadly force situations in most cases as the suspect has to do something that alerts the officer to the imminent fight. That being said, the officer is already behind the power curve as action generally always beats reaction. Let us at Trident Firearms Academy LLC show you how to prepare your officers for these encounters and to WIN!
