MAY 3 through MAY 5 - Vehicle Defense (Instructor)
VEHICLE DEFENSE INSTRUCTOR COURSE
The Vehicle Defense Course is a three and a half day school dealing with fighting in and around vehicles. This course is designed to teach the law enforcement firearms instructor or security specialist instructor how to then teach these life saving skills to their officers. So many times in our profession we teach the basics of shooting but don’t consider how they may be applied in different scenarios that officers normally find themselves in. Looking at statistics compiled by different agencies and the FBI UCR we find that officers are generally involved in deadly force encounters within the first few seconds of arriving at a call. Many times the officer is still in or close to their vehicle. In other situations we see officers have been involved in shootings where one or more vehicles were close to them and were either not used for cover / concealment or used improperly.
In three days we will cover; fighting from outside the vehicle, inside the vehicle, under and over the vehicle. We will place officers in the driver’s seat, passenger seat, and in the backseat to learn all the angles of fighting from within a vehicle. Techniques for two officer units will also be trained with officers learning to act as a team as opposed to acting independently. Students will utilize the handgun and shotgun or carbine during these three days of training. We will dissect the vehicle to learn where the best cover is provided by the vehicle body and or components. We will practice getting out of the vehicle and getting into the fight from all angles and learn about the equipment inside our patrol cars that can add to the problem.
In the low light portion during the week, we will look at and train for deadly force encounters during high risk vehicle stops, at the termination of pursuits, and take everything we learned in the daylight and apply it to low light conditions both with and without a flashlight. This intensive three and a half day school is capped at 16 students to maximize their training time in the scenarios and to insure the officers have a good understanding of the techniques to be able to take this information back to their agencies and teach their officers.
Trident Firearms Academy LLC will provide the student instructors with a course workbook outlining different techniques, courses of fire, and suggestions for taking this training back to their own agency. We will provide the student instructors with a course outline of our lesson plan that they can build on to customize the training to their environment, taking into account weather conditions normally encountered, whether they work in a rural or urban area, and the various vehicles used by agencies such as the standard patrol car, SUV’s, transport vans, and unmarked sedans.
Trident Firearms Academy LLC can provide this training at our home range in central California or bring the training to you. For specific equipment needs to instruct this course in your area, please contact us and we will provide the information packet of needed materials. Trident Firearms Academy LLC utilizes the Coach / Shooter training format to keep down time to a minimum and to enhance the student instructors teaching capabilities. This class is kept to a maximum of 16 students to insure safety and to provide for hands on training and correction to help the student’s ingrain proper technique and knowledge of the subject matter.
We promise you that you will never look at fighting around vehicles in the same way again. Learn the techniques and tips that can make the difference and allow your officers to WIN!
